Grant Thornton Foundation donates $48,000 to Support Mental Health and Addiction Initiatives in Southern Ontario

(Toronto, February 2, 2024) – The Grant Thornton Foundation generously donated $48,000 to support four Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) agencies with their mental health and addiction initiatives across Southern Ontario. By donating to CMHA Ontario and local branches, Grant Thornton is helping to make a positive impact on the well-being of many populations across the province.

“At Grant Thornton, giving back to our communities is fundamental to our greater purpose. The Grant Thornton Foundation connects our colleagues to meaningful causes that they care about through active involvement, building relationships, and providing financial support,” said Dennis Leung, Chair of the Grant Thornton Foundation Board. “We’re proud to support CMHA Ontario and help foster a culture of understanding and support to those facing mental health challenges.”

The funds have been distributed to CMHA Ontario, CMHA York Region and South Simcoe, CMHA Niagara, and CMHA Thames Valley Addiction and Mental Health Services (TVAMHS) to support a number of programs and services.

“On behalf of the Mood Walks program, I want to thank Grant Thornton Foundation for their generous donation of $25,000,” says Camille Quenneville, CEO, CMHA Ontario. “Their support will ensure the program continues to help participants improve their mental and physical health through nature or ‘green exercise’.”

“This gift of $15,000 will make a positive impact on our clients’ journey to better mental health, enabling us to extend our compassionate care and dignified mental health support to clients across York Region and South Simcoe,” said Catherine Matzig, Senior Director, Philanthropy, CMHA York Region South Simcoe. “Also, our sincere thanks to the Grant Thornton Markham Tax Office team who joined CMHA staff for a day of service to wrap holiday gifts for our CMHA-YRSS clients, bringing a little holiday magic to people in our community who are struggling with their mental health.”

“Grant Thornton Foundation’s contribution is a welcome support for CMHA Niagara,” says Tara McKendrick, Executive Director, CMHA Niagara. “Their sponsorship of our upcoming Wellness for All event will help us to achieve our fundraising goals and ensure our branch continues to provide free and accessible crisis and same-day mental health supports to our community.”

“Thank you, Grant Thornton Foundation, for your support. Your contribution will enable CMHA TVAMHS to continue providing much needed mental health and addiction resources and assistance,” says Pam Tobin, CEO, CMHA TVAMHS.

Grant Thornton Foundation’s generosity will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact, and we express our sincere thanks for their continued support in creating healthier and more resilient communities.
