Founded in 2009, the Niagara Region’s Memorial Forest, located at the Glenridge Quarry Naturalization Site at 1860 Sir Isaac Brock Way, St. Catharines, features mature trees, an inscribed stone and plaques which honour family and friends who have passed on after battling mental illness.
The initiative seeks to lessen the stigma around mental illness and promote greater understanding and compassion from the community as a whole.
Every October, as part of Mental Illness Awareness Week, a Memorial Forest Vigil takes place, providing an opportunity to share stories of hope and success as told by individuals and family members living with mental illness. This year’s event is scheduled for Thursday, October 7, 2021.
There is limited capacity to attend the vigil in person. Register to attend
However you are welcome to view the video of the service which will be posted at the Memorial Forest website
