I’m Looking to Talk to Someone
9 January 2022
IMMEDIATE ACCESS COUNSELLING – STUDENT DROP-IN COUNSELLING AT BROCK UNIVERSITY – COAST:

Our immediate access counselling programs provide opportunities to talk about your concerns with a trained mental health professional. Talking therapies can help individuals speak freely, without fear of criticism or judgement, and understand what may have caused the concerns and how to manage them. Early intervention and access to support can have a significant positive impact on a person’s mental health.
Same Day Counselling Session
Mental health counsellors provide same-day counselling services to individuals by exploring their immediate concerns. They offer assistance with problem solving and crisis management. Follow-up services and connections to other resources are provided. Based on an assessment of individual needs, follow up services may include short-term brief solution-focused counselling sessions, telephone counselling and support with bridging to longer-term resources. No referral is required.

Student Drop-in Counselling at Brock University
Through a partnership with CMHA Niagara, one-on-one, on campus, drop-in counselling is available to Brock University students to reduce the time in which students wait to access counselling services and make it easier for students to access help during peak times of the academic year. Brock students can access this service during the weeks leading in to exam periods during both semesters. Brock students can learn more about hours, dates and locations on the university website.
If our immediate access counselling service is not available and you are in crisis:
Call COAST at 1-866-550-5205 for confidential crisis support 24/7.
COAST is a mobile crisis outreach and intervention service that offers immediate telephone counselling and on-site crisis outreach intervention as needed. It operates seven days a week, 24 hours a day for individuals 16 years and older who are experiencing a mental health crisis. Information is collected over the phone by a qualified health professional. If needed, the mobile team will assess the person in crisis in their community. Ongoing telephone support and/or referral to appropriate follow up services may be recommended to prevent further crisis. COAST is not a rapid-response service. For life-threatening emergencies call 9-1-1. Call COAST 24/7 at 1-866-550-5205.
